Tactic 46. Story 30. Units of Weight, Measure, Time, and Energy Exchange. 2025

At Honeylight Glamping, wood will be sold in energy units called a 'hug.' One hug provides enough wood for about two hours of campfire vibes. This bundle contains four hugs of wood.

One of the benefits of building your own world is that you get the opportunity to create standard units of weight, measure, time, and energy exchange.

Energy

Wood: Guests will purchase wood in units called “Hugs”. One Hug is enough wood for a two-hour campfire.

Spark of Inspiration: Each hug will come with one a fires starting kit called a Spark of Inspiration. This will include a pack of matches, two pieces of fatwood, and one two wax impregnated cotton disks. This will make it easy to get a fire going in under five minutes.

Time

In the Beginning

In the spirit of this kind of thing, I think that starting out with time always makes the most sense. Also, it’s conceptually consistent to start stories with “In the beginning…”.

And if you are going to go to the the trouble of building your own world, it’s smart to base the time coordinate system on Planck time and the Big Bang.

That way, no one will ever come before you after you die.

When people to Honeylight Glamping, I’ll have a digital clock that shows:

Seconds from the Big Bang to Now.

This will establish a sense of elapsed time.

Time of Day and Night

I’ve designed a solar powered sundial that works at night. It uses the position of the main firepit, a solar panel and battery system, and a laser to keep track of time.

Calendar

13-Month, 28-Day Calendar

  • Each month = 28 days (4 full weeks)

  • Each year = 364 days, plus 1 extra "Year Day" (or 2 in leap years)

  • Every date always falls on the same day of the week each year

    • Example: If January 1st is a Monday, then February 1st is also a Monday.

Month Structure

Month 1: Solis

Month 2: Luna

Month 3: Terra

Month 4: Aeris

Month 5: Aqua

Month 6: Ignis

Month 7: Flora

Month 8: Fauna

Month 9: Harmonia

Month 10: Noctis

Month 11: Aurora

Month 12: Eterna

Month 13: Novus

Special Days

Year Day: New Year's Day

Sync Day: The day before Solis 1 to resynchronize the 28 day calendar

Lead Day: A global holiday, outside of the weekly cycle (every 4 years)

Syzyrgy Events: Alignment between the Dome of Dreams at Honeylight Glamping, the ISS, Moon, and Mars

Benefits of This 28 Day Calendar

  • Every date is always the same weekday every year

  • Months are perfectly structured (no uneven lengths like 30/31 days)

  • Week structure remains unchanged—familiar 7-day system

  • Simple leap-year: Leap Day

  • No need to shift dates year to year: Sunc Day

Primary Currency Units (Sundrop Scale)

  • 1 Sundrop = $1

  • 10 Sundrops = 1 Small Jar of Honey ($10)

  • 100 Sundrops = 10 Jars of Honey ($100)

Fractional Units

  • 1 Ray = 0.1 Sundrop ($0.10)

  • 1 Beam = 0.5 Sundrop ($0.50)

Larger Denominations

  • 1 Lightwave = 100 Sundrops ($100)

  • 1 Sunburst = 1,000 Sundrops ($1,000)

Alternative Barter Translations (Energy & Work)

  • If 1 Sundrop represents a unit of work, you could define:

    • 1 Bee Hour (time spent gathering nectar) = X sundrops

    • 1 Hive Cycle (full production period) = Y sundrops

    • 1 Energy Cycle (conversion of nectar to honey) = Z sundrops

How Money Works in Terms of Sundrops and Honey (Caloric Equivalent)

1. Base Unit: The Sundrop

  • 1 Sundrop = $1 = 1/10th of a Small Jar of Honey

  • This creates a direct energy-based value system tied to honey production.

2. Honey as a Currency Standard

  • 1 Small Jar of Honey = 10 Sundrops = $10

  • This provides a tangible, energy-backed unit of exchange.

  • Since honey is a stored form of biochemical energy, it mirrors economic energy flow.

3. Caloric Equivalence

  • 1g of Honey ≈ 3 Calories

  • 1 Small Jar (~340g) ≈ 1,020 Calories

  • 1 Sundrop (1/10th of a jar) ≈ 102 Calories

  • This means money (Sundrops) is directly tied to the caloric energy stored in honey, aligning with biological and economic energy transfer.

4. Energy-Exchange System

  • This system models transactions as energy transfers, reinforcing the analogy that "time is honey, and time is money."

  • It allows value to be measured in work, calories, and monetary terms simultaneously.

This tactic covers:

  • World Building

  • Practical Dreaming

  • Empires

  • Architectures

  • Energy Exchange and Work

  • Standards for Agreement about Shared Fairness
